Hearing this word (“Digital Marketing”) so much these days? Putting stress on the mind what is digital marketing, and how it can help you in this modern world? How do people are being benefitted from this approach? Well, when I first heard this word, I also got so much excited to know more about this, I searched everywhere, and collected information from different resources. During this process, I had to read so many articles, watched so many videos, did courses on digital marketing, then I reached a place where I could say that I understand this field and can get benefitted from this, and really after implementing all those concepts I got so much for the digital world.
As I have to search everywhere to find proper and structured knowledge, there’s not a single place on the internet where I can say you’ll get the proper and structured knowledge the way you want. So, we realised this and thought we should write some structured blogposts for this, as many people are already doing this, but we’ll be posting structured articles, in simple language, that anyone can understand. Go through the articles, and if any question pops up in your mind, let us know in the comment section.
Well, as time passes the ways of marketing change, after the invention of the internet people found a new way to market their products via digital platforms. To advertise at low cost, and in a dynamic way. Digital Marketing is a self-explanatory word, as it contains two words first is digital and the second is marketing. So,
Digital Marketing = Digital + Marketing Where Digital means electronic media, & Marketing means the promotion of products & services. Then, digital marketing means the promotion of products or services or brands through different forms of electronic media.
Why Digital Marketing?
Many questions arise in the mind when we think to enter the digital world like where the customers are from? , how to find customers? , Could the business be run during the extended hours? Well, I also thought the same before entering this world, and get to know that the newest age companies are going online these days, the digital world is expanding employment opportunities, and it is a must for those who want to start on their own. It is also very much beneficial for those who want to enter the freelancing world, grab freelancing opportunities, and want to build a career in freelancing.
Components/ Types of Digital Marketing
Digital Marketing is the term that represents several modules and methods of marketing in a single term, when someone is talking about digital marketing, she/he isn’t just talking about digital media or promotion, but they’re talking about the following Fields
Marketing (Inbound/Outbound Marketing): – Marketing means promoting your products or services. Well, for every business to run smoothly, there’re two components that are very necessary, one is marketing and the second is innovation. Innovation can be a product or service that makes life comfortable and work easier for normal people. We can perform marketing through two methods, one is outbound and the second is inbound.
Outbound marketing involves methods like cold-calling, cold-emailing(sometimes spamming), direct mail, billboards, event sponsorships, tradeshow presentations, advertising through T.V, radio, print, and online or in-person. In this, we proactively reach out to consumers to get them interested in a product.
While on the other hand, inbound marketing includes the ways in which the consumers themselves come searching for our products and services, like if someone wants some answers and we’ve written a blog post on the same topic to clear his/her doubts, then he/she will himself/herself come to us. These types of techniques are counted in inbound marketing.
Facebook advertising is an example of outbound marketing & Google advertising is an example of inbound marketing.
Website Designing (Planning) & Development (Creation): – Having a website builds a reputed web presence in the digital world. Online presence helps us a lot in spreading awareness about our products and services.
But it takes a lot to design a good website, and development is the bigger pain than designing. Before designing your website, visit the websites in the same niche and see what they’re doing and how they’re doing it, after that plan your own website, don’t go ahead without having a proper understanding of your business and your competitors. After that, you can develop your website by hiring someone or for yourself by using any type of content management system you’re aware of.
Graphics Designing: – Graphics includes videos, background, images, and animations. Without graphics there’s nothing that can look better, not a single movie can be a badass without graphics, we always need graphics to make the content look attractive, nice, and engaging for the visitors. If the graphics in the content isn’t good, the website & the content within it will not look good, the visitors will not engage with your content, and the process will stop, no trust, no transaction. You may lose many things if you’re not having attention to your graphics parts, this includes, images, animations, and small videos, with good looking backgrounds. To design basic graphics you can use free tools like Canva, Pixlr etc.
SEO (search engine optimisation): – Search engine optimisation means optimising your content for the search engines. Well, I would say SEO is the most misunderstood field in digital marketing. A few business owners and entrepreneurs are focusing on SEO, but it can give us a fortune if we do it properly. SEO provides you free traffic by implementing simple strategies. Search engine optimisation is also classified into several components which are, basic SEO, technical SEO, local SEO etc. Do it properly, and it can pay you, you can never imagine. If you’re not performing search engine optimisation, you’re leaving a large amount of money on the table.
Blogging: – Blogging is a very good platform to put ideas and creativity in front of everyone. Blogging is a way through which we can convey the message easily, it’s the simplest way to solve people’s problems by putting a blog post. It’s also a good side hustle to make a living. Bloggers these days are earning millions.
Web Analytics: – Web analytics is the next component in which we can track our customers, and the traffic on our website. It provides us with an in-depth understanding of our consumers in less time. We can improve our web analytics, and track the consumers’ behaviour, transaction, and much more.
Search Console: – Search console provides us with data about what people are searching for. If we know what people are searching for and for what words our website is ranking. It’ll be easy for us to target our consumers and keywords. It also provides us with how many impressions we got from the search engine, and at which position our content is ranking.
OnlineAdvertising – Online advertising is the best way to increase the large number of consumers in no time. There are several platforms that are used for online advertising like Google, Bing FB, Instagram, YouTube, Twitter, Pinterest, and LinkedIn. PPC (Pay per Click) is the best way to advertise to our target consumers. We can target the consumers on their behavioural patterns, interests, locations, and so many factors. So, it’s a good way to boost our business on some days.
SMM (Social Media Marketing): – Social Media imparts a big role in online presence as people are spending a lot of time on social media. There’re many popular social media like Facebook, Instagram, Pinterest, and Twitter. Hundreds of social media running nowadays. We need to build a robust social media presence to keep our customers engaged and build trust in the market.
E-Mail Marketing: – Email marketing is a very popular way of cold mailing without annoying people. There’re many email marketing platforms that are providing good services all in one like MailChimp, Sendinblue etc.
Content Marketing (Copywriting, Content Writing, SEO Content Writing):- As everyone says, “Content is the King”. I also agree that the content is always king. Contents include texts, blog posts, video or podcast scripts, E-books or whitepapers, press releases, product category descriptions, landing pages or social media copy and creatives, sales copy, and much more.
If you’re providing consistent valuable content, that’s great. Be consistent, it’s going to pay you so much in return. We can consider three fields in content marketing, one is copywriting that’s is the way of content writing in which we write content for the purpose of advertising or marketing. The product of copywriting is called copy or sales copy that’s the written content that aims to increase brand awareness and ultimately persuade a person or group to take a particular action.
Content writing is the way in which we’re just writing for the people, for solving the problem in their own way and language. This includes the process of writing, editing, and publishing content in digital format. These are simple videos, texts, and posts.
SEO content writing is the way in which we also keep in mind what people are searching for on the search engines, and optimise the content by keeping those keywords in the mind. We provide valuable content according to the demands of the people so that we can target a large number of consumers.
Mobile Marketing: – Mobile marketing is increasing day by day, as 80% of the population is using smartphones on surfing the internet. Google also has shifted its crawler from desktop to mobile keeping in mind that most of the visitors are using smartphones. We should also optimise our content for mobile. Having a mobile optimised blog is very necessary these days, if you’re having a fully responsive blog, you’ll be ahead of 90% of the people who’re spending their time building a web presence.
Mobile marketing also includes optimising our google my business, using text message (SMS) marketing, making our site navigable, adding a personal touch, creating QR codes for quick access, creating mobile applications for our business, encouraging social engagement, enabling real-time tracking for applications, combining all the mobile marketing techniques and creating multi-channel campaigns through them, making mobile the heart of our business.
ORM (Online Reputation Management): – Reputation is very necessary to build a brand in the online world or our own circle. So, managing it should be done properly. We always get some positive reviews, and along with them, there’re some negative reviews also. To handle all these types of reviews is a big task in itself. It also involves handling the information on the website, social media, blogs, and other digital platforms, managing the info that we want others to see, what we don’t want others to see, handling negative sentiments, building brand, promoting business, and calculating marketing evaluation of our company.
There are so many ORM tools that can be used these days as Google alerts, Hootsuite, Social Mention, Tweetdeck, etc.
Affiliate Marketing: – In affiliate marketing, we get the money (commissions) every time we promote a company’s product or service and drive a sale. It’s also called an advertising model that pays its consumers to promote the company’s products and services and generate sales.
Freelancing: – “Become a master of your business.” Freelancing is the way of earning money with no boss. It seems pretty good having no boss over our head, but it’s not that easy, start it as a side hustle, and when you start earning that much that you can quit your job, just take action. Quit your job and make it full-time work.
Freelancing is contracted work for multiple clients and companies. A freelancer’s field of expertise can range from content creation to app development to tutoring to SEO, to analytics, everything you can provide, most people do freelancing in services.
Digital Marketing is an ocean filled with several different components of marketing and is the fastest emerging field in this modern world. With all these different types of components, digital marketing is a way by which we can handle any type of marketing problem with the help of fewer resources and in less time, last but not least at the lowest cost ever. So, we’ll talk about the different benefits of Digital Marketing.
Benefits of Digital Marketing
Global Reach: – With the help of social media, and search engines we can reach globally. We can sell our products and services all over the world with the help of digital marketing. It opens new markets for us.
Easy Tracking of Customers: – There’re many web and social media analytics properties through which we can track each and every customer. Tracking in the digital world is easy and the most efficient.
Cost-Effective: –Digital Marketing is the most cost-effective, we can get so many results in less effort and resources. We also need not invest so much amount of money to reach all over the world, and we can broadcast our product and services wherever and whenever we want.

Today, I’m going to walk you through the precise process by which I went about starting this blog and also the resources that I accessed to make it possible for you too. Follow along and have your blog ready in under 30 mins.
STEP 1 – Planning/ Finding a Niche
80% of your success in starting a blog lies in your planning.
When you know what you want to blog about, it becomes so much easier to get started. Problem-solving should be your main purpose in starting a blog.
Planning mainly involves understanding the best niche for your blog. Choosing a niche for your blog involves three major components:
Your passion – Topic that you’re passionate about. Think about what magazines, blogs or websites you visit. Also, think about the topics that you like talking about. If you can add any unique inputs to your selected topic. For e.g., If you like to keep everything organized in your house or office, you should go ahead and start a blog on “Organised space – Organised Life”.
Market Opportunity – Understanding if there lies a market for the topic you’ve clinched. You’ll have to understand the market better to get to know about the demand. One easy way of doing this is using the Google Keyword planner. You’ll get to know what people search for the most.
Expertise – You don’t need to be an expert in your chosen field. You just need to be specific and help others with your content. You should just be willing enough to try new things, share your experiences and help people solve their problems.
Here’s a mind map of some of the profitable niches. If you’re not really sure what to pick, then just go ahead and pick one out of these, and get started. The main thing to do is to get started and you’ll see the confusion and clutter in your head melt away.
STEP 2 – Domain Name
What is a Domain name?
In simple terms, a Domain name is a name you give to your blog. For example, my blog’s name is www.digiavtar.com – ‘DigiAvtar’ is the domain name.
Choosing a domain name isn’t as easy as it sounds. Take your time in deciding the best domain name for your blog. You can’t just choose whatever name comes to your mind. You also have to check that someone else is not blogging under that name.
Let’s say that you’ve decided on a domain name for your blog, I would recommend that you go to any hosting provider and try searching for the availability of that domain name.
You could also use some domain name generators and select the name you can connect with. The domain name should be simple and catchy, and shouldn’t be confusing.
STEP 3 – Choose a Hosting Provider for your blog
Next step after you’ve found your desired available domain name is choosing a hosting provider. I’ve listed down some of the hosting providers. If this is your first blog, you can definitely check out GoDaddy and buy a domain name and WordPress hosting package for one year to get started.
STEP 4 – Install WordPress
I’ve compared a few blogging platforms and ‘WordPress’ is by far the hands-down winner. It’s just so easy to set up and it offers tons of free themes and layouts for a better look and feel of your blog. Title & Tagline of your blog
Setting up Permalinks
Choose Theme
Get as creative as you want to with designing your blog. You can try out themes and install the one which you readily connect with and which reflects your personality and suits your niche.
Although there are a lot of things which one should keep in mind like the color scheme used in the blog, the structure of the blog, look and feel. I would recommend you install a theme that suits you. I’ve installed GeneratePress as I’m pretty comfortable with it.
If you follow a blog and like the theme used in it and want to find out more about that theme, then use: https://www.wpthemedetector.com/
Pro Tip: Always prefer a clutter-free and clean blog and use available free themes as there are plenty of them.
Install Plug-ins
Plug-ins are the essential building blocks for your blog and there are plenty of free plugins available. Some of the must-have ones are:
Insert Headers and Footers
Google XML Sitemap
GA Google Analytics

Step 6 – Google Search Console & Analytics
Why do you need a Search console?
It monitors your blog’s performance
It tells you how Google views your site
Gives you feedback about how your blog/website is doing in google’s search results
In very simple terms, is a measuring tool that will tell you about the performance of your blog so that you can make necessary changes.
How does Google Analytics help?
It helps you by providing data which can be anything like:
How many people visit your website?
What is the geographic location of your website’s visitors?
How many visitors have I converted into leads or customers?
Where did my converting visitors come from and go on my website?
What blog content do your visitors like the most?
How many products have you sold through your website and how much money have made?
Voila! Start penning down your ideas or thoughts and share them with the world.

How much does it cost to start a blog in India?
To begin with, you just need to spend on getting a domain and hosting for your blog. Once you start writing consistently, you’d need to invest more to generate an income stream from your blog. I’d say just go ahead and try. If you need any help choosing the niche, or finding out cheap and sustainable domain and hosting providers, pls comment below and we’ll answer all your queries.
Let’s start with this, What do we do when we want to buy something?
It’s simple! We look online. We research specific details of the product on various portals, dig reviews, explore and then buy with confidence. This search, dig and explore phenomenon is happening around us every moment of the day on laptops, mobile phones, and tablets.
My 7-year-old daughter knows how to look for a dress online for herself or how to find a recipe for her favorite fudge cake. This paradigm change in people’s buying behavior or the digital transformation that we are witnessing is here to stay and is pushing us towards the future, now more fiercely than ever.
Let’s say that you love to paint and sell your paintings strictly through referrals or word of mouth. So far, you’ve not had a digital presence but now you are looking forward to taking your business online. Now, how will that benefit you? Having an online presence means that you’ll be visible to people when they search for a business like yours. People can learn so much about you and your offerings with the help of a single click on your website’s link.
Have a blog or a youtube channel where you teach people DIY tricks on how they can create stunning masterpieces on their own. The possibilities of them getting to know you, making a connection with you, becoming your customers, and then referring you to others, are virtually endless. You also get to learn about your customers, which content they like, which one they spend more time on, which product or service brought them to your website or blog, etc. This will give you an insight into what your customers want and how to give it to them.
Exciting, right? But how exactly do we start with this?
Building Your Web Presence
Let’s go back to the painting seller example. The first step that most people would tell you is to start a Facebook page or become active on Instagram and try to sell your stuff through your page to get more visibility and reach. I agree considering the immense reach and popularity of these platforms this should be the first step to take and this might give you a lot of visibility and drive audiences to your brand in a short span of time. But will that be enough?
Actually, NO. Let’s understand, that Facebook and Instagram are also here to make money. So when their AI bots realize that you are using their platform to sell, they would reduce your visibility in your circles unless you start paying them. Moreover, you are still not sure about the ROI even when you pay them. In these circumstances, it’s always advisable to start your blog to build your online presence.
Here are the steps on how to take your brand to the next level:
Set up S.M.A.R.T goals
Setting a goal establishes a clearly defined path and a thought-out direction which will eventually lead you to long-term success. They help you to prioritize your energies, maintain motivation, build resilience and give you a clear vision of what you intend for.
What are S.M.A.R.T. goals?
This widely used acronym is used to guide people in setting objectives for themselves. Goals should be a clear milestone of what you wish to achieve.
Specific — The more specific your goal description is, the better chance you’ll actually meet it. You’ll have more motivation to take action if you know exactly what you want.
Measurable — Having a measurable goal will keep you on task and track your progress.
Attainable — Is this goal achievable to you? Your goal should be realistic, but also stretch your boundaries giving leeway for more opportunities to conquer.
Relevant — Ask yourself “what is the significance behind reaching this goal?” You want to make sure that each goal is purposeful in getting them to where they want to be. Is it relevant to their overall journey?
Timely — Establish deadlines to make the goals seem attainable.
An example of a smart goal for an aspiring digital marketeer
List yourself On Business Directories
One of the first steps you should take in establishing your online presence is to make sure your business is listed in popular business directories.
List your business on Google My Business. You can use your listings on these directories to do the following:
Help customers find your store location
List business hours
Provide reviews from past customers
Feature images of your business
Setting up your social media presence
Having a presence on social media instills trust in your current customers and prospects. Personally, if I see that a company doesn’t have a presence on social media, I lose trust and feel unsure if they even exist.
Plus, social media is a great way to build your credibility and reputation and showcase your brand. When potential customers are researching your brand, the first place they’ll look is social media to see what you’re putting out there and what people are saying about you.
Set up your own WordPress Website or Blog
Creating your own Blog or Website will reap your benefits in the long run. You can design your website the way you want, WordPress offers you complete flexibility and gives you total control of your site. You can build an online store, share your ideas through the blog with high-quality content and unlock the unlimited potential your site has to offer. It gets a bit technical though but you can follow my guide to creating a successful WordPress blog
Make a relationship with your customers through Email marketing
You must start collecting emails from your audiences from day 1 of beginning your digital journey. An email list will help you engage with your customers on a daily, weekly, and monthly basis. You can use a call to action on your website and social media pages to promote your email newsletter or an ebook and collect emails.
Build an online community
Having a digital community i.e, your brand’s FB group or a telegram channel will help you connect with your audiences. You’ll be able to listen to their needs, take action about their grievances, and know instantly about their satisfaction. It also helps improve brand visibility immensely if you are constantly in touch with your customers.
However, you should focus on choosing the right social media channels
It’s very critical to choose the right social media channels to build your community on. Twitter is a great forum for effective customer support, Facebook helps you cater to a wider audience and Instagram works well if your audience is young and hip.
Market your online presence
Since you have created your web presence, you need to understand how to show up on search engines when people search for brands like yours. Just creating your website or blog isn’t magically going to bring people to your site. You have to market your site using
Track your results using analytics. See what people are doing on your website, what brings them to your site, what actions they perform once they reach your property, and how much they spend exploring which part of your website and adapting to changes in technology accordingly.
Taking your business online does take some effort but in my opinion, it’s completely worth it given the snowball effect it can create for your business. You may consider hiring someone to do this but it’s still essential to that as a business owner you have full knowledge of the concepts.
